Gowen Contemporary

INTERACTION
by Sofia Yegane

GOWEN is excited to present Interaction by British-Iranian artist Sofia Yeganeh (b. 1996, London). Marking her very first solo show with a gallery, the exhibition comprises selected works taken from the artist’s eponymous, ongoing, image-based series begun in 2021. The show builds on Yeganeh’s participation in three of the gallery’s recent group exhibitions REVIVAL I - XVIIIe siècle, NEXT (2023), and Salutation (2024) and demonstrates a notable evolution in her experimental artistic process.

Working in mediums of embroidery, collage, painting, and using thermal imaging to explore the emotional and energetic connections between humans, Yeganeh’s practice is defined by expressive and instinctive characteristics as she deals with personal themes based around identity, human nature and body, and the natural world. The natural form is a running thread in her oeuvre, particularly the female body and the way in which it is often depicted idealistically in collective imagination and contemporary culture.

In her unique pictorial language, Yeganeh continues to balance and juxtapose multiple elements, blending figurative aspects with abstract form.

Around fifteen works are included in the exhibition as well as a live, largescale thermal installation.

Sofia has been represented by GOWEN since 2023.
