DE PROFUNDIS
Natacha Mercier & Jean-Louis Perrot
To Natacha, I would say that my language lies within hers—“the threshold of movement”—that infinitesimal moment when a mass comes to rest, in serene calm, the moment of “the life force regenerating itself”…
It is the moment of equilibrium that interests me—between the fluid statue and the serene calm of a mass coming to rest, as alienation gives way and the life force regenerates. I mean metastable, like the threshold of movement in which beings take hold of their destiny.
I contrast this with the bronze that once sought to fix the ideal posture for all eternity—the yoke of humanity. I yearn for every posture, for a sparkling life, and sense the latent promise of a better world. I do not anticipate a form; I want to live, and the universe tells me that I must be gaseous or don the shell of a stag beetle. The right way comes only after having played well, worked well—and forgive me, time is precious to me—I have no certainty until the very last moment. - Jean-Louis Perrot
