In *Between Form and Use, Where Gestures Begin*, Xinyi Hu transforms familiar objects—a mirror and a table—into evolving ceramic forms that visitors are invited to activate.
Looking at oneself, gathering together, leaning on something: these everyday gestures are reconfigured, forcing the body to adapt and invent new ways of using the objects. Straddling the line between domestic objects and sculpture, her pieces explore the precise moment when the artwork comes into being—through the body’s engagement and the gestures that bring it to life.
Originally trained in photography and video, Xinyi turned to ceramics during her Master’s program at HEAD in 2022. Since then, ceramics have become her medium of choice. Xinyi was awarded a residency at the Bruckner Foundation in 2023, which allowed her to further deepen her mastery of this medium.
