At the Foot of Mount Vesuvius
Neapolitan gouaches 18th-19th centuries

The Galerie Grand-Rue invites you to visit its exposition of Neapolitan gouaches to mark the opening of the Spring Season of Art en Vieille-Ville.

The works of Saverio della Gatta (active c. 1777-1827), one of the pioneers of the genre, will be on display along with some signed gouaches by Camillo de Vito (active c. 1790-1830), Giuseppe Scoppa (active middle 19th c.), and Giorgio Glass (active beginning 19th c.).

A beautiful selection of works representing night-time eruptions of Vesuvius completes the collection, including a breath-taking panorama of the city of Naples from the sea, a vision whose epic grandeur is echoed in the herculean proportions of the physical work of art itself (being approximately 130 cm wide and signed by the artist Francesco Fergola, 1801-1874).
