ERRÓ / VILLEGLÉ
Gluing / Ungluing

One, Erró, is a member of Figuration Narrative, the other, Villeglé, eminent theorist of the "anonymous lacerated", is a member of Nouveau Réalisme, two groups that emerged in the mid-twentieth century, both taking as their subject matter and tools the products of consumer society. Villeglé turned to the posters that were spreading across the walls of Paris, and Erró to the magazines that, whatever their subject, were proliferating. What could be more revealing of the fads of the moment than printed paper they could easily appropriate? One took scissors and glue, the other a blade to mark the perimeter of posters to be removed. Combining collages (from 1956 to 2017) by Erró and decollages (from 1958 to 1997) by Villeglé, the exhibition, which spans more than half a century, features landmark works by these two artists, witnesses to their times.
