Opera Gallery

ANSELM REYLE

For this 34th edition of AVV, Opera gallery presents a monographic exhibition by the protean artist Anselm Reyle, who is now one of the most closely followed German visual artists on the international scene.

Using unconventional materials in his paintings and industrial installations, Anselm Reyle's prolific research combines figuration and abstraction. Admitting to being "interested in something that has the quality of being a cliché", he disrupts the viewer's cultural reference points by giving new meaning to the familiar urban object.

From the outset of his career, Anselm Reyle has varied his approaches, adopting both a pictorial practice, with large-scale abstract paintings, and a sculptural one. Experimentation and diversification of materials are dear to Reyle, who mixes aluminum, mirrors and neon lights in flashy colors. His work, whose vital spontaneity contrasts with great technical complexity, refers in particular to the various schools of abstraction of the early 20th century.
