Gagosian is pleased to present A line (a)round an idea, an exhibition of black-and-white works on paper by Georg Baselitz, Bruce Conner, Willem de Kooning, Sam Francis, Hans Hofmann, Charles Howard, Franz Kline, Henri Matisse, Brice Marden, Robert Motherwell, Richard Serra, Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, and others.
The works in this exhibition reveal the ways that modern and contemporary artists of different genres and generations have explored the powerful clarity of the black line, mark, splatter, or stroke—each activating the blank space of the page, yet producing profoundly different results.
