ROGER DE MONTEBELLO

Roger de Montebello, French-American artist, has chosen Venice since 1992 as the main place of inspiration for his work and the seat of his studio.

His recurring subjects, along the canals of the Serenissima, are the Salute, the Dogana or the Porta delle Terese, a deconsecrated church in the Dorsoduro district, attached to a convent of Carmelite nuns (commonly called "Terese") adjacent.

Venice is not "over there", but "up there", as Casanova once described it to Madame de Pompadour.

Everything seems to have been said about the City of the Doges and yet, through his pictorial art, Roger de Montebello manages to reinvent each time the subjects he takes on, in search of a visual and metaphysical ideal, according to a palette of blues and whites, drawn from the mirrors reflecting the light of the air, water, sky and architecture, thus operating a true metamorphosis of reality.
