Barbier-Mueller Museum

Arts of Africa, Oceania, Asia and Antiquity

Founded in 1977, the Barbier-Mueller Museum is situated in the heart of Geneva’s old town. Its aim is to preserve, study, display and publish a collection initiated by Josef Mueller in 1907 and carried forward to this day by his heirs.

Today, the collection contains several thousand articles and includes Tribal Arts and Classical Antiquities, as well as sculptures, fabrics and ornaments from “primitive” civilizations around the world.

The museum organizes two exhibitions per year, displaying a selection of objects from its own collection, and has gained international acclaim through its traveling exhibitions, museum loans, and the publication of numerous catalogues and art books.
